Blood Iolite and Iolite are from the same mineral family, Cordierite. Blood Iolite has it's name due to the red hematite inclusions that look like blood spots, hence the name.
Iolite is known for promoting mental clarity, creativity, and emotional balance. It's also said to aid in intuition and vision. It is believed that during the time of the Ancient Vikings, they used iolite as a polarizing filter by reducing glare and locating the sun on cloudy days to navigate. Hence earning it the nickname "Viking Compass Stone".
